What
is RSS?
RSS (Really Simple Syndication) is a web feed XML format that contains
either a summary of content from an associated web site or the full
text. RSS feeds notify users of updated content on their favorite Web
sites without them having to go to the site. RSS can also be used to
syndicate information from one Web site to another. The Journal of Leukocyte Biology
offers RSS feeds by subject category.
RSS
Feed Description
The feeds include citation and abstract information (for articles with
abstracts) for current articles with a link to the full contents if you
have access.
How do I use an RSS feed?
You need to install an RSS reader (or aggregator) on your computer. An
RSS reader is a software program that automatically gathers the RSS
feeds you select and agrregates them on your desktop or on a customized
Web site (e.g., My Yahoo! or Bloglines). Many readers are available and
most are free. Newer versions of some Web browsers (e.g., Firefox and
Safari) now support RSS. The Society for Leukocyte Biology does not endorse any particular RSS
reader or Web browser and cannot provide technical support for RSS
reading. You can find lists of RSS readers on numerous Web sites
devoted to the subject. If you maintain a Web site you can use services
such as RSS-To-Javascript or MobileRSS.
How
can I sign up to RSS feeds?
Click on one of the orange “RSS” buttons above and
copy and paste the URL (web address for the RSS feed) into your RSS
reader. Then follow instructions for your specific RSS reader or
browser.
Why
do I see "code" when I click on the RSS links?
RSS feeds are designed to be viewed with RSS readers (see above). If
you view the RSS feed in a standard Web browser, you will see the
tagged data in its “raw” format. Instead of
clicking on the RSS button, you will need to right-click and select
“Copy Shorcut,” then paste the URL into your RSS
reader. (For more specific instructions, see your particular RSS
reader’s documentation.)
