Secretory lysosomes of hematopoietic cells degranulate at sites of inflammation. Recent results showed targeting of secretory lysosomes with a soluble TNF receptor whose secretion was triggered by a calcium signal. These organelles may act as vehicles for targeting inflammatory sites, including malignancies, and thereafter, locally release therapeutically active agents to these sites. For more information, see Gao et al., pages 876-885.
