ABSTRACT

Previously, {alpha}-MSH, a 13-amino acid neuropeptide and the tripeptide {alpha}-MSH have been shown to possess potent antimicrobial properties. We performed microplate based growth inhibition assays on C. albicans with {alpha}-MSH, but could not observe any growth inhibiting effect. Repeating the originally published assay with different C. albicans strains, we detected a mild growth inhibiting effect of 100 µM {alpha}-MSH, but again no effect of {alpha}-MSH.

Key Words: Candida albicans • antimicrobial • neuropeptide
